It's all they can hope for that they will see her Coming Around Again.

CHAPTER 1

Kate didn’t realize she was grinning. Nor did she notice Dan smile at her as they stood in line at the check in desk. With her tanned skin and slim figure Dan was still taken aback when he looked at his wife. Twelve years later and she still looked as good as the day he had met her.
‘I certainly lucked out there.’ He thought to himself as the feelings for his wife caught him off guard again.
‘I gotta have done something good in a previous life to get so lucky this time round.’
‘Hey dreamer,’ Kate said as she stroked his arm, turning to look at him. Her blond bob framed her slender face. ‘What are you grinning at?’
‘Just thinking of last night,’ with a self satisfied grin he leaned in to kiss her.
‘Ugh,’ Alex scrunched up his face and they laughed at his reaction.
‘Are we embarrassing you son?’ Dan ruffled Alex’s blond wavy hair.
‘Ehh, yeh. You don’t have to do that in public you know. People can see you.’
‘I’ll remind you that’s how you feel when you get your first girlfriend.’ Dan laughed
‘No way, that would be yuck.’
‘Excuse me. I’m a girl, am I yuck’?
‘No mum you know what I mean. You’re not a girl you’re my mum it’s different.’
‘Well at least I know where I stand then.’
Dan caught her gaze and grinned knowingly at her. She sighed.
‘Back to reality soon, in no time this is going to seem like a distant memory. I hate the end of holidays. I like getting back into our routine but this part is definitely the hardest.’
‘You’ll be fine once we get home and start planning the next trip. It will be Christmas before we know it and then New Years in…’.Dan paused….’where did you say you would like us to go this year?’
‘I would like to point out it was master of the house there who decided where we are going,’ she pointed at Alex.
‘Whistler Dad, it’s in Canada. It’s cool. Nathan went last year and he said it’s the business. We can snowboard and they’ve great black runs for you. Nathan’s Dad was skiing with Olympic skiers you know,’ Alex said excitedly.
Dan was laughing again,
‘Olympic skier’s heh? Wow then we have to go there.’
Alex started doing his little dance, hoping foot to foot.  ‘Mum, I need to go.’
‘Alex, I’ve told you before not to leave it till the last minute’, she looked to Dan.
‘I’m on it, let’s go buddy.’
‘Ahh Dad, I’m eight not two, I can go on my own, look,’ he pointed to his right ‘the toilet’s  over there behind us. You guys can even see the door from here, please?’ he pleaded with his parents. They looked to each other. Kate responded,
‘O.K, but no hanging around. Straight back, you understand?’
‘Yes Mum, I know.’ Alex was already striding purposefully towards the toilets looking to see which one was for girls and which for boys. ‘Left for girls, right for boys,’ cool he thought.
‘Did you hear that? I’m eight not two’, Dan mimicked.
Kate’s gaze followed her son,
‘He thinks he’s so grown up. He’s only eight Dan, not twenty eight, he’s still my baby.’
‘Watch this space, before we know it there will be girlfriends, cars, college and we’ll be forgotten and all but left behind,’ he shrugged.
‘Oh don’t say that,’ Kate punched his arm playfully. ‘I am definitely not ready to even think about that yet!’
Alex turned at the bathroom door and gave his Mum and Dad a thumbs up before heading in.
‘Poor baby,’ Dan wrapped his arm protectively around Kate and pulled her close.
                ‘You’re mocking me,’ she smiled.
‘Me? Mock you? Never.’ He kissed the top of her head. ‘Don’t worry babe, no woman will ever be able to compare to his Mum.’
They moved their luggage forward in the queue and just then the ground beneath them shock violently.
‘What the hell?’ Dan grabbed Kate to steady her.
‘Holy Crap what was that? Is it an earthquake?’ Kate held tightly to her handbag as what seemed like a minute of complete silence was followed by bloodcurdling screams.
‘Oh my God Dan, quick we need to get Alex.’
Another loud bang was followed by another earth shake. This time the whole building shook.
‘Holy shit that’s not an earthquake Kate that’s a bomb.’ shouted Dan over the thunderous noise coming from where they had entered the airport terminal. Dan half turned to Kate as he started for the bathroom.
‘Wait here and we’ll leave together.’
                ‘No, I’m coming with you.’
‘It’s ok babe, I’ll get him and come straight back, two seconds I promise.’
‘Hurry, he must be so scared.’ Dan ran towards the bathrooms. Kate stood routed to the spot as people scrambled around her, staff barked orders in Spanish and broken English. Police with foghorns were rounding the far left corner as Kate’s eyes fixed on the bathroom doors to her right.
Dan emerged from the bathroom, his face ashen, he began to run towards her and then everything went black.
